Elm Lodge social club's 'Very Good' food hygiene rating!

We’re pleased to announce that last August, our weekend social club at Elm Lodge received an outstanding 5 out of 5 food hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency (FSA)!

This is a top of the scale rating, reflecting the Elm Lodge social club’s ‘very good’ hygiene standards and full compliance with food hygiene law.

The Food Standards Agency’s assessment is based on a number of factors including how food is stored, prepared and handled as well as the cleanliness of facilities and how well food safety is managed. Our fantastic club's team, Linda, Josie and our committed staff and volunteers have worked well to ensure that the clubs food hygiene lives up to the highest standards for our attendees so we’re immensely proud to have this reflected in our food hygiene rating.

This means that not only is our food hygiene impeccable and meets the FSA's standards, it also means that we can continue serving hot meals at our Elm Lodge Social Club, in full compliance with the FSA's guidelines and the legal requirements.

Our hot meals at our weekend social clubs are such an enjoyable and important part of the day. It’s a chance for our attendees to socialise over a meal with their friends and wind down after a morning of fun activity and exercise. People with dementia are found to significantly benefit from socialising in terms of mental health, with research finding just ten minutes of socialising can have a profound, positive impact on a person with dementia’s overall wellbeing. So maintaining quality and compliance with the delivery of these opportunities for a chat over a hot meal are incredibly important to us.

In the end, the spreadsheets, hygiene records, temperature checking and expiry date sticker-ing are all worth it when we see the positive outcome of what our food hygiene compliance means for our clubs!
